The Wilton Companies announces the Tenant Representation of Toad's Place Richmond!
 October 1, 2007 - Congratulations to Chris Francoise, Associate Broker with Wilton Realty for his representation of Toad's Place Richmond and Highwater in the lease of 20,000 sq. ft. at the historic Lady Byrd Hat Building (located at 140 Virginia Street) in Historic Shockoe Slip!
The anchor tenant in the building is Toad's Place Richmond, a concert venue and Highwater, the restaurant which sits along the (previously unused) Canal Walk in the heart of Richmond's established Shockoe Slip restaurant and entertainment district. Lady Byrd Hat retains it's rustic features, including heart pine floors, high ceilings, massive wood trusses and exposed brick.
Originally built 1896, The Lady Bird Hat building is the former site of the Virginia Paper Co. and Lady Byrd Hat factory. Approximately 48,000 square feet in size, it emerges as the only historic renovation at the Turning Basin, the building is a prime location for out of town visitors and Richmond natives alike. The venue is within walking distance from the some of the best restaurants in the city, several great hotels, the Financial District, the nightlife area known as Shockoe Bottom and the rejuvenated upscale residential apartments of Tobacco Row.
The Toad's team has transformed their improvements into a state-of-the-art music and performance venue. The renovation of the building was a long and involved design-build process with decisions being made on everything from flooring, the shape of the wall (for better sound quality), the size and scope of the stage to lighting fixtures and paint colors. Knowing that to be a truly national level concert venue, the sound and lights needed to be the best in the state. Not wanting to skimp, Toad's Place contracted with Clair Bros. Audio, the most esteemed name in concert audio, to custom build a state-of-the-art sound system with a fully digital Yamaha sound board designed to accentuate the unique shape and construction of the space. With over 70 par cans and 10 moving head intelligent lights, the lighting system matches the P.A. as the best in the state.
The main floor of the venue can hold 900 people standing or 120 for a seated dinner. The mezzanine level can hold 500 people standing or 120 for a seated dinner. The top level of the building has three private skyboxes that are available for groups of 8-10 people and can be used individually or collectively. Highwater at Toad's Place is a full-service restaurant on site which means that Toad’s Place can also cater your event. The area along the Canal Walk is also available for use for groups up to 100-400 people.
Lady Byrd is now "the" destination on the canal now that it has a restaurant/entertainment venue to anchor the site.
